By the time of its release in 1972 Genesis were gaining a serious following among fans of thoughtful, progressive rock, as well as garnering a reputation for inspired theatrical live performances. Kicking off with the visceral ‘Watcher Of The Skies’ ‘Foxtrot’ won over the critics of the time with Sounds declaring it “almost the perfect album”. Over on Side 2, the album closed with the mammoth ‘Supper’s Ready’ a 27-minute composition of many parts: it’s multi-faceted construction and musical dexterity can still astound today.
